HERENTALS Queens’ dance in the CAF Women’s Champions League has come to an end despite a thrilling 4-2 victory over Olympic de Moroni of Comoros in the Group C match of the COSFA qualifiers this Wednesday.
Needing to win by at least a four-goal margin, Herentals Queens suffered for failing to keep a clean sheet after netting four times against Olympic de Moroni in a match played this Wednesday.
Morelife Nyagumbo opened the scoring for the Students with a well-taken goal in the 43rd minute.
However, Olympic de Moroni quickly responded, drawing level in added time of the first half with a stunning chip from Suraya Ali.
The Comoros side took the lead in the second half, but Queens fought back, with Nyagumbo equalising and eventually completing a hat-trick to seal a 4-2 win.
Despite their victory, Herentals Queens finished second in Group C, which was not enough to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
This is the lowest a Zimbabwean team has finished, with Herentals Queens reaching the last four stage last year, while Black Rhinos finished as runners-up three years ago.
The top team in Group C, Costa do Sol from Mozambique, will move forward to the next stage.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns, the two-time winners, topped Group A and will face ZESCO Ndola Girls from Zambia in the second semi-final on Friday.
Gaborone United from Botswana, the winners of Group B, will take on Costa do Sol in the other semi-final.
