THE historic African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five Darts Youth Tournament is underway in Mazowe, with eight nations including hosts Zimbabwe competing.
Zimbabwe is fielding a balanced team of 22 players, 11 girls and 11 boys, reflecting the National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (NDAZ)’s commitment to gender equity in sport.
This marks the first time Zimbabwe is hosting the championships since inception in 2011, underscoring the country’s growing capacity to stage regional and international sporting events.
The event aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader strategy to harness sports tourism as a key driver of economic growth and national development.
Sports tourism is a key component in the tourism sector with the 2025 National Budget Statement, highlighting government’s pursuit of innovative projects through a Tourism Cluster approach, part of which is the construction of infrastructure to host international tournaments.
