President Mnangagwa arrives in Rome to meet Pope Leo XIV

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived in Rome, Italy, where he is scheduled to meet with Pope Leo XIV (14th) at the Vatican .

He was met at the Ciampino International Airport by Zimbabwe’s ambassador to the Vatican, Dr Sekai Nzenza as well Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Italy Mietani Chauke and officials from the Vatican.

The President is expected to have a closed door session meeting with the Pope this Saturday and a number of issues including the role of the Roman Catholic Church in Zimbabwe’s education and health sectors are expected to be up for discussion.

The abolishment of the death penalty by Zimbabwe is also expected to be discussed .

After his meeting with Pope Leo XIV, President Mnangagwa is also set to meet the Vatican Secretary of State , Cardinal Pietro Parolin .
