Senegal Win CHAN 2024 Bronze After Dramatic Penalty Shootout Against Sudan

Senegal clinched third place at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) with a 4–2 victory in a penalty shootout against Sudan, following a 1–1 draw in regulation time at Kampala’s Mandela National Stadium  .

Sudan made a flying start when Mohamed Tia Asad headed in from a corner in the 6th minute, putting the underdogs ahead early on  . Senegal regrouped in the second half; their equaliser came in the 58th minute through a precise Seyni Ndiaye header, assisted by Ousseynou Seck  .

With no extra time in this playoff, the match proceeded directly to penalties. Sudan missed early on—Walieldin Khdir shot wide and Musab Makeen was denied by Senegal’s goalkeeper Marc Diouf—while Senegal converted all their attempts. Joseph Layousse, Issa Kane, Vieux Cissé, and Libasse Guèye scored to seal the win  .

Senegal’s coach Souleymane Diallo praised his team’s character after the semi-final disappointment, noting the squad’s resilience and maturity  . Sudan, under coach Kwesi Appiah, earned admiration for their campaign despite losing the bronze match. Their strong run—achieved amid domestic turmoil and limited preparations—showed the enduring spirit of Sudanese football  .

Peter Shalulile Becomes All-Time Top Goalscorer in South Africa’s PSL

In South Africa, Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns has etched his name in history by becoming the all-time top scorer in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). His recent penalty goal against Stellenbosch took him to 130 career goals, overtaking the previous record of 129 held by Siyabonga Nomvethe  .

Shalulile’s goal tally spans multiple competitions:

He now stands alone atop the PSL’s all-time goalscoring list, a testament to his longevity and scoring consistency  .
