Professor Attahiru Jega, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has insisted that the results of the presidential election will be released within 48 hours.

Jega made the statement at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, while addressing journalists on Sunday.

“You start counting 48 hours when substantial amount of polling units have concluded elections.”

He said that the first collated results from the 36 states of the federation are being expected at the National Collation Centre in Abuja.

He insisted that INEC is the only authorised body to announce elections results.

polling units in Kano

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano on Sunday announced the cancellation of election results of two polling units in two local government areas of the state

The INEC Assistant Director Public Affairs, Alhaji Lawal Garba, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Sunday.

Garba said the results were cancelled following the tampering of the results by suspected thugs in the areas.

“The results were cancelled in a polling unit in Kibiya Local Government Area and Jodade Polling Unit in Kunci Local Government Area.”

He said that some people suspected to be thugs forced the electoral officers to change the election results.

Garba also said that the commission had conducted election in 13 polling units in two local government areas of the state following the hitches recorded during the Saturday’s elections.

He said the election was held in five polling units in Shanono Local Government while in Tudun Wada Local Government the election was conducted in eight polling units.

Speaking at a joint press conference alongside the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Johnson Olawumi, INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega said it would be made possible based on the improvements already made by the commission since the 2011 general elections.

“We cannot expect the results from the states under 24 hours, we will be collating the results as they are coming out but I can assure that under 48 hours, all the results should be ready. We were able to do it in 2011, we should be able to do this in 2015 based on much more improvements that have been put in place,” he said.

Jega also debunked the claim that the master key to the critical Information Technology (IT) infrastructure housing the database of INEC for card reader machine was in possession of an individual that had sympathy with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate.

According to him, there is no master key for the card reader as being claimed, but a source code which was only known to the manufacturer. Jega said the code has not been breached, as far as he can tell

La Commission nationale indépendante électorale (CENI) à Kanodimanche, a annoncé l’annulation des résultats de l’élection dedeux unités de sondage dans deux zones de gouvernement localde l’État

Le directeur adjoint INEC Public Affairs, Alhaji Garba Lawal, cecidit dans une interview avec l’Agence de presse du Nigeria (NAN)à Kano dimanche.

Garba a déclaré que les résultats ont été annulés suite à lafalsification des résultats par des gangsters présumés dans lesrégions.

« Les résultats ont été annulés dans une unité de sondage dansla zone d’administration locale de Kibiya et Jodade du scrutinunité dans la zone d’administration locale Kunci. »

Il a dit que certaines personnes soupçonnées d’être des voyouscontraint les agents électoraux de changer les résultats desélections.

Garba a également dit que la commission a lancé élection dans13 unités de sondage dans deux zones d’administration locale dela suite à état les attelages consignés lors des élections de samedi.

Il a dit que l’élection s’est déroulée dans cinq unités de sondagedans le gouvernement Local de Shanono et dans legouvernement Local de Tudun Wada, l’élection a été menée danshuit unités de sondage.

Lors d’une conférence de presse aux côtés du directeur généraldu Corps National de Service jeunesse (NYSC), le brigadier-général Johnson Abou, Président de l’INEC, professeur AttahiruJega dit qu’il ferait possible basée sur les améliorations déjàapportées par la commission depuis les élections générales de2011.

“Nous ne pouvons pas attendre les résultats des États sous 24h,nous va rassembler les résultats car ils sont à venir, mais je peuxassurer que moins de 48 heures, tous les résultats devraient êtreprêts. Nous avons été capables de le faire en 2011, nous devrionsêtre capables de faire cela en 2015 basé sur beaucoup d’autresaméliorations qui ont été mises en place,”dit-il.

Jega démystifié également l’affirmation selon laquelle la cléprincipale à l’infrastructure de technologie de l’Information (TI)critique abritant la base de données de l’INEC pour machine delecteur de carte était en possession d’une personne qui avait lasympathie avec tous les progressistes Congress (APC) et soncandidat à la présidentielle.
