The journalist Mohamed Fahmy, who faces a retrial in Egypt on terrorism charges, says he has filed a lawsuit in Canada against his employer, Al Jazeera, accusing it of negligence and seeking $100 million in compensation. At a news conference in Cairo,

Mr. Fahmy, who was acting bureau chief in Egypt for Al Jazeera’s English-language service when he was arrested in 2013, accused the network of endangering him and his colleagues.

“They don’t seem to understand that they cannot continue to challenge the sovereignty of governments, put the story ahead of the safety of their employees and assume that they will continue to get away with it,” he said. Mr. Fahmy is a naturalized Canadian who gave up his Egyptian citizenship.
