The prefect of Noun has banned the wearing of veil and burqa in his administrative district. Boyomo Donatien, prefect of the department of Noun, in the Western region of Cameroon justified his decision observing that the prefectural order is based on law 90/54 of 19 December 1990 on the maintenance of order and law 2014/028 of 23 December 2014 on the suppression of acts of terrorism.
The Senior Divisional Officer for Noun added that anyone who would not be recognized or identified by security forces due to the veil should stay at her home. Correspondingly, the SDO noted that unrecognizable persons are barred from travelling on public roads and public transportation such as motorbike taxi, taxi and intercity transportation. They are also banned from markets, bus station, funeral celebrations, hospitals, health centers.
It is also prohibited to trade as a buyer or seller with all people putting on a veil or burqa. Violators of these measures will be arrested and his accomplices will be prosecuted warns the administrative authority.
