UN Slams DR Congo Ban on Film on Doctor

The DR Congo’s UN mission chief on Wednesday slammed a government ban on an acclaimed film about Congolese surgeon Denis Mukwege, who has treated thousands of women raped during conflict.

Martin Kobler, the German head of the UN mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, believed the ban on Belgian film “The Man Who Mends Women” was “an inadmissible attack on freedom of expression,” said the MONUSCO mission’s public information chief Charles Bambara.–AFP

“Mr Kobler therefore urges the Congolese authorities to come back on their decision,” Bambara told a news conference.
