A small plane crashed into Lake Malawi on Tuesday, carrying three people on board. A Dutch passenger was rescued by local fishermen, while another passenger and the pilot remain missing, according to Malawian officials.
Malawi’s Information Minister, Moses Kumkuyu, confirmed that the rescued passenger is a woman, though her age was not disclosed. She sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.The crash occurred near the shore of Lake Malawi in shallow waters. The plane, identified as a Cessna C210, has been located, and a rescue operation is actively underway.
The aircraft, operated by charter airline Nyasa Express, was en route from the central lakeside town of Nkhotakota to the southern town of Liwonde. The Cessna C210 typically accommodates up to six passengers.Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa, stretches approximately 580 kilometers (360 miles) and spans more than half the length of the country.
