TAAG Angola Airlines, the national carrier of Angola, has taken a significant step towards modernizing its fleet. The airline recently received its first Airbus A220-300 from Air Lease Corporation (ALC).

With five further narrowbody A220 aircraft planned to arrive, this marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in its history.

This delivery is part of a larger agreement between TAAG and ALC, which will see a total of six A220-300 aircraft join the airline’s fleet. The move demonstrates TAAG’s commitment to growth and efficiency in the competitive African aviation market.

TAAG Angola Airlines, founded in 1938, has long been a key player in connecting Angola to the world. With its hub at Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport in Luanda, TAAG operates both domestic and international flights. The addition of the A220-300 will enhance its capabilities on various routes.

Steven F. Udvar-Házy, Executive Chairman of ALC, expressed his satisfaction with the deal. We are pleased to announce ALC’s first of six new A220-300 aircraft delivered to TAAG Angola Airlines.

ALC is the first lessor to introduce the A220 to the airline, and we look forward to assisting TAAG in its long-term fleet modernization program.

The Airbus A220-300 provides fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. It can seat between 120 to 160 passengers and has a range of up to 3,400 nautical miles. This versatility makes it an ideal choice for TAAG’s expansion plans, which include new routes and increased flight frequencies.

Nelson de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG, highlighted the importance of this acquisition for the carrier. Adding the A220-300 demonstrates TAAG’s ambition for modernization and growth. We’re building a versatile fleet to address market demand under our expansion plan.

De Oliveira also emphasized the local impact of this fleet upgrade. Angolan crews will operate the new aircraft, with multiple teams benefiting from comprehensive training programs. This investment in local talent aligns with TAAG’s commitment to empowering the Angolan aviation sector.

TAAG Angola Airlines is the leading airline in the country and is recognized worldwide for its strong high-yield market. It has grown its current network to 13 domestic and 11 international destinations. Its fleet allows, in addition to passenger transport, air cargo services which have become essential for Angola´s growth and development.

As TAAG Angola Airlines welcomes its first A220-300, the future looks bright for Angola’s air travel industry. With improved efficiency, expanded routes, and a focus on local development, TAAG is positioning itself firmly in the African market.
