South African Boosts Australia Capacity

South African Airways will offer five weekly flights between Johannesburg and Perth from January of next year. The airline relaunched direct services between Johannesburg and Perth on April 28, 2024 following a four-year hiatus.

Resuming these nonstop flights was welcomed by travellers in both Perth and Johannesburg and beyond. The absence of nonstop service meant that travellers were forced to take inconvenient, costly, and often very lengthy connections when travelling between the two cities.

The carrier currently offers three weekly flights between Johannesburg and Perth. Departures are offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Flights between Perth and Johannesburg are operated on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Mondays.

According to sustainability in the sky these flights are operated with an Airbus A340-300 aircraft seating 253 passengers in two classes: Business and regular Economy class.

Atta reports that starting on December 8, 2024, South African Airways will increase the frequency of its route from Johannesburg to Perth to four flights per week, with an additional increase to five flights per week from January 7, 2025.
