Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier of Malaysia, is set to resume direct flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Kolkata (CCU) on December 2, 2024. This strategic move expands the airline’s Indian network to 10 destinations. This includes major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Amritsar, Trivandrum, and Ahmedabad.

The new route will feature five weekly flights using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, known for their reliability and efficiency on medium-haul routes.

This expansion follows the successful launch of daily flights to Amritsar last month, highlighting Malaysia Airlines’ focus on strengthening its presence in one of its key international markets. With these additions, the airline now offers an impressive 76 weekly flights connecting India and Malaysia, providing travelers with more options and flexibility.

Malaysia Airlines, a member of the oneworld alliance, has been serving passengers since 1947. The airline is renowned for its Malaysian Hospitality, a unique blend of warmth, efficiency, and cultural richness that sets it apart in the aviation industry.

With its hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia Airlines connects travelers to over 50 destinations worldwide. This includes popular spots in Southeast Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, CEO of Airlines at Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), gave his thoughts about the service resumption. Restarting direct flights to Kolkata marks a significant step in improving travel options between Malaysia and India. As a crucial market for us, we’re constantly enhancing our network and increasing flight frequencies.

Our goal is to provide exceptional travel experiences, backed by Malaysia Airlines’ well-known hospitality. We encourage passengers to explore diverse cultural offerings and take advantage of seamless connections to global hubs through Kuala Lumpur.

This reinforces our position as a gateway to Asia and beyond. Our ongoing investment in India demonstrates our commitment to being the top choice for both leisure and business travelers.

The resumption of the Kolkata route is part of Malaysia Airlines’ broader strategy to recover and grow its network post-pandemic. The airline has been focusing on rebuilding its operations, enhancing its digital capabilities, and improving customer experience.

This includes the recent introduction of new features in its mobile app, and upgraded in-flight entertainment systems. The carrier also shows a renewed focus on sustainability initiatives.

Travelers can look forward to experiencing Malaysia Airlines’ signature hospitality onboard, including a variety of Malaysian and international cuisines, comfortable seating, and a range of in-flight entertainment options.

The airline’s frequent flyer program, Enrich, also offers members the opportunity to earn and redeem points on flights and with various lifestyle partners.

As Malaysia Airlines continues to expand its network and enhance its services, the reintroduction of the Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata route represents a significant step in strengthening cultural and economic ties between Malaysia and India, while providing travelers with more options for exploring the rich diversity of both countries.
