HeadEuropean Cargo Launches New Air Freight Base in Cardiff, Boosting UK’s Aviation and Logistics Hub

Cardiff Airport welcomes a new regular air freight service connecting China and Wales, as European Cargo establishes its second UK base. Set to launch on 16 October 2024, the service will initially operate three weekly flights, expanding to four, with plans for further frequency increases. Widebody Airbus freighter aircraft will be dedicated to this new base.

Starting 16 October 2024, a regular air freight service will connect China and Wales, operating out of Cardiff Airport. This development not only enhances the airport’s cargo capabilities but also reinforces its national importance and economic value to Wales.

Initially, the service will operate three weekly flights, with plans to increase to four in the near future. European Cargo aims to further expand the frequency as demand grows. The operation will utilize dedicated large Airbus aircraft, showcasing the airport’s ability to handle substantial cargo operations.

This new venture is set to create numerous job opportunities for residents of Wales. The airport already facilitates over 4,000 jobs through its operations at Cardiff and St Athan Airports. This number is expected to grow with the new cargo base.

The airport serves as a crucial link for both passenger and cargo traffic, connecting Wales to various destinations across Europe and beyond. In recent years, Cardiff Airport has been focusing on diversifying its operations, with cargo services becoming an increasingly important part of its business model.
