Angolan President João Lourenço recently hosted discussions with the leaders of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, as part of his ongoing mediation efforts to stabilize relations between the two countries. The talks, which took place in Luanda, aimed to address tensions between the DRC and Rwanda, particularly concerning the eastern DRC, where rebel groups have escalated conflicts, causing regional instability.
Lourenço has been recognized for his diplomatic role in Africa, particularly his efforts to mediate the long-standing border and security issues between the DRC and Rwanda. The meeting focused on finding peaceful solutions to the conflict and improving cooperation on security, economic development, and cross-border relations.
The trilateral talks are a continuation of Angola’s diplomatic push for peace in the region, building on previous engagements aimed at de-escalating military tensions and fostering stronger economic ties. Angola’s role in these negotiations is seen as critical, given the importance of regional stability for Central Africa.
