Etihad Airways and Air Astana have entered a codeshare partnership aimed at expanding connectivity between the Middle East and Central Asia. The agreement allows passengers to enjoy seamless travel across both airlines’ networks, providing more travel options and convenience.
Under this partnership, Etihad Airways will place its EY code on Air Astana flights between Astana and Almaty to key destinations in Kazakhstan. Similarly, Air Astana will apply its KC code to Etihad’s services between Abu Dhabi and selected international destinations.
The move is expected to benefit both airlines by leveraging their respective hub strengths—Abu Dhabi for Etihad and Astana for Air Astana. Passengers will gain access to streamlined booking processes, improved flight schedules, and increased baggage allowances.
Tony Douglas, CEO of Etihad Aviation Group, highlighted the importance of the partnership in boosting tourism and trade ties between the regions. He noted that Kazakhstan’s strategic location and growing economy make it an attractive market. Peter Foster, President and CEO of Air Astana, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the potential for enhanced regional connectivity.
This collaboration aligns with Etihad’s strategy to expand its global footprint through strategic alliances. For Air Astana, it marks another step in its international growth plans, offering access to new destinations through Abu Dhabi.
Passengers traveling on codeshare flights will also benefit from frequent flyer program reciprocity, enabling them to earn and redeem points across both airlines. This partnership reinforces the airlines’ commitment to offering high-quality service and connectivity.
With the aviation industry steadily recovering, the codeshare agreement signals optimism and a shared vision for future growth in passenger travel and cargo operations. Both airlines aim to capitalize on the rising demand for travel between the Middle East, Central Asia, and beyond.
