Egypt Condemns Israel’s Continued Occupation of Syrian Territory

Egypt has strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing occupation and reported expansion into additional Syrian land, calling it a flagrant violation of international law and a threat to regional stability. The statement follows reports of Israeli activities in the Golan Heights, a region captured from Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed by Israel in 1981 a move widely unrecognized by the international community.

In a press briefing, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized what it described as escalatory actions that undermine efforts toward a peaceful resolution to the Syrian crisis. Egypt reiterated its position in support of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging Israel to adhere to United Nations resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 497, which declares Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights null and void.

Regional and global reactions to Israel’s continued presence in the Golan Heights remain polarized. While some nations, including the United States under previous administrations, have recognized Israeli sovereignty over the area, most countries and international bodies, such as the United Nations, maintain that the land is occupied Syrian territory.

Analysts warn that these developments could heighten tensions in an already volatile region, complicating peace talks and deepening divisions between Israel and neighboring Arab states. Egypt’s condemnation aligns with its broader policy of advocating for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and resolving disputes through diplomatic means.

This latest criticism adds to Egypt’s consistent calls for international action to address what it sees as provocations and breaches of international law by Israel. Cairo has urged the global community to step up efforts toward achieving a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, emphasizing dialogue and adherence to legal frameworks as essential components of any resolution.
