Cambodia Angkor Air Expands Fleet with Addition of Three ATR 72-600 Aircraft

Cambodia Angkor Air, the national carrier of Cambodia, has announced the expansion of its fleet with the acquisition of three new ATR 72-600 aircraft. This move is part of the airline’s strategic plan to enhance its domestic and regional connectivity, providing a more efficient and comfortable travel experience for passengers.

The ATR 72-600, a twin-engine turboprop aircraft renowned for its fuel efficiency and operational reliability, is well-suited to Cambodia Angkor Air’s route network. With a seating capacity of up to 74 passengers, these planes are designed to operate on short-haul flights, making them ideal for the airline’s domestic routes and select regional destinations.

In a press conference held in Phnom Penh, airline officials highlighted the significance of this fleet expansion. The CEO of Cambodia Angkor Air, Sok Sangvar, stated, The addition of these new aircraft marks a milestone in our journey to provide superior service and expand our reach. These planes will enable us to serve more destinations and offer increased frequency on high-demand routes.

The new ATR 72-600 aircraft will initially be deployed on routes connecting Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, three of Cambodia’s most popular destinations for tourists and business travelers alike. The airline also plans to use these aircraft to explore new routes to neighboring countries, such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos, further strengthening regional ties.

One of the standout features of the ATR 72-600 is its advanced avionics suite, which enhances operational efficiency and safety. The aircraft also boasts a spacious cabin design, providing passengers with a comfortable flying experience. Additionally, its low environmental impact aligns with global efforts to promote sustainable aviation practices.

The expansion comes as Cambodia’s aviation sector experiences a resurgence in demand following the COVID-19 pandemic. With tourism rebounding and increased interest in Cambodia as a travel destination, the airline aims to position itself as a key player in the region’s aviation industry.

Travel industry experts have praised Cambodia Angkor Air’s decision to invest in the ATR 72-600, citing its proven performance in similar markets. This aircraft is an excellent choice for the airline, offering the perfect balance of capacity, range, and cost-efficiency for regional operations, said aviation analyst Chhay Sokha.

The delivery of the three ATR 72-600 aircraft was facilitated through a leasing agreement with a leading global aircraft leasing company. Cambodia Angkor Air confirmed that the aircraft are brand new, equipped with the latest technology to meet modern aviation standards.

Passengers can expect to see these new aircraft in service by early 2025, with the airline already planning promotional campaigns to showcase the enhanced travel experience. Cambodia Angkor Air is also exploring opportunities to increase partnerships with travel agencies and tour operators, aiming to attract more visitors to the country.

This fleet expansion underscores Cambodia Angkor Air’s commitment to supporting the nation’s economic growth by boosting tourism and providing reliable air transport services. As the national flag carrier, the airline plays a crucial role in connecting Cambodia with the rest of the world, and these new additions are set to elevate its standing in the regional aviation market.

Looking ahead, Cambodia Angkor Air is optimistic about its growth trajectory, with plans to further modernize its fleet and introduce innovative services to meet the evolving needs of travelers. The addition of the ATR 72-600 aircraft represents not just an investment in technology but also in the future of Cambodia’s aviation industry.
