HK Express Debuts First Direct Flights to Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport, Boosting Japan Travel Options

HK Express, a low-cost carrier under the Cathay Pacific Group, has announced the launch of its first direct service to Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion into Japan. The new route aims to enhance connectivity between Hong Kong and Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji region, a popular destination for tourists seeking natural beauty, cultural experiences, and adventure.

The inaugural flight, which commenced this week, connects Hong Kong International Airport with Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport, located in the Shizuoka Prefecture. The service operates three times weekly, offering convenient travel options for both leisure and business passengers. The route was chosen strategically to tap into growing demand for travel to secondary cities in Japan, which are gaining popularity among international travelers for their unique attractions and less crowded settings compared to major cities like Tokyo and Osaka.

Shizuoka Prefecture, home to the majestic Mount Fuji, is renowned for its picturesque landscapes, hot springs, and rich cultural heritage. It is also famous for producing some of Japan’s finest green tea. The airport’s proximity to Mount Fuji and other tourist hotspots like the Izu Peninsula makes it an attractive gateway for international visitors. HK Express hopes the direct flights will encourage travelers to explore beyond Japan’s traditional tourist hubs, supporting regional tourism and economic development.

Japan has long been a top travel destination for Hong Kong residents, with its unique blend of tradition and modernity, diverse food culture, and seasonal attractions. The launch of the new route coincides with a resurgence in international travel as restrictions ease globally. According to HK Express, the addition of Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport to its network reflects its commitment to offering affordable, convenient options for travelers eager to rediscover Japan post-pandemic.

The airline has tailored its services to enhance the passenger experience, including affordable ticket prices and flexible booking options. Onboard, passengers can enjoy the airline’s signature low-cost model with optional add-ons such as meal purchases and extra baggage allowances.

Additionally, HK Express has partnered with local tourism boards to promote travel packages that include visits to iconic landmarks like Shiraito Falls, Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine, and Mount Fuji’s 5th Station. The introduction of direct flights is expected to provide a significant boost to Shizuoka’s regional economy by increasing international visitor numbers. Local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and tour operators, are poised to benefit from the influx of tourists.

Shizuoka’s Governor Heita Kawakatsu welcomed the new route, stating, This partnership with HK Express brings a golden opportunity for our region to showcase its unique offerings to a broader international audience. The launch of this route is part of HK Express’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in Asia and offer more direct connections to underexplored destinations. As demand for travel continues to grow, the airline plans to introduce additional routes to other Japanese regional airports, further solidifying its presence in the market.

For travelers, the new direct service opens the door to unique experiences in the heart of Japan, offering a convenient and affordable way to explore one of the country’s most breathtaking regions.
