Boeing Inaugurates New Regional Office in Addis Ababa to Strengthen African Aviation Ties

Boeing has officially opened its African headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marking a significant expansion into the continent’s aviation sector. The new office, set to commence operations in October 2024, underscores Boeing’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines and supporting the growth of Africa’s aviation industry. 

Henok Teferra, Managing Director of Boeing Africa, highlighted that Ethiopia’s advancements in aviation and its strategic position as a continental hub were pivotal in the decision to establish the headquarters in Addis Ababa. 

The partnership between Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines is set to deepen, focusing on joint production of critical aircraft components. Ethiopian Airlines has been producing and supplying wire harnesses for Boeing, and Boeing is supporting Ethiopian Airlines in producing insulation blankets at the Kilinto Industrial Park. 

This move aligns with Boeing’s projections that African carriers will require over 1,000 new jet aircraft over the next two decades, with 80% of these deliveries intended to augment existing fleets.

The establishment of Boeing’s African headquarters in Addis Ababa is expected to bolster Ethiopia’s position as Africa’s leading aviation center, fostering economic growth and technological advancement in the region. 
