Zim Airports Company doubles down on aviation security with robust plan to enhance passenger safety infrastructure and international compliance
The Zimbabwe Airports Company has intensified its efforts to strengthen aviation security across all major airports in the country launching a comprehensive strategy aimed at boosting passenger safety protecting airport assets and aligning operations with global aviation standards the move comes as part of a broader national initiative to modernize transport infrastructure and attract more international airlines into Zimbabwean airspace
Officials at the company say the new security measures will include the installation of advanced surveillance systems biometric access control for restricted areas and enhanced training programs for airport security personnel the plan also calls for tighter screening protocols for passengers cargo and baggage as well as improved coordination with regional and international aviation security agencies
The decision to step up security follows recommendations from recent audits conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization which highlighted areas where Zimbabwe could improve its compliance with global aviation safety frameworks while the country has maintained a relatively incident free record authorities are keen to eliminate any gaps that might expose vulnerabilities in the aviation system
Stakeholders from the tourism and business sectors have welcomed the initiative noting that safer airports contribute significantly to investor confidence and traveler peace of mind industry experts believe the revamped security architecture will not only safeguard lives but also enhance the efficiency of airport operations leading to shorter wait times and smoother processing for travelers
The company has committed significant resources to the rollout with funding coming from a mix of government allocations and private partnerships it is expected that the initial phase covering Harare Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and Victoria Falls International Airport will be completed by the end of the year with subsequent phases extending to other regional airports
