Digitalisation drive enhances education sector transformation

THE government has commended private players in the education sector for enhancing the quality of learning through investing in new technologies.

The Second Republic’s decision to prioritise the involvement of private players in the country’s education sector has been commended for yielding positive results by enhancing the quality of learning.

A prize-giving day at Sandon Academy recently saw the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Honourable Tatenda Mavetera prising private players in the education sector to invest in new technologies to enhance the learning process.

“Today I have been impressed by what I saw here in terms of how digitalisation can transform our education sector. The institution has invested in state-of-the-art computer laboratories, and digital boards and that is where we are going as a country to make sure that we bridge the digital divide between rural and urban schools. What we saw today is a model of what we want to achieve in all our schools as we move towards digitalisation of our education institutions,” she said.

The private sector was challenged to partner with the government and invest in the education sector to ensure the attainment of a knowledge-driven economy by 2030.

“The vision that was set by President Emmerson Mnangagwa needs collective effort from both the private and the public sector. Everyone must play his or her part and what we have witnessed today shows that a country is truly built by its people. If we have more of these institutions owned by Zimbabweans then we will be contributing towards the attainment of a knowledge-driven economy by the year 2030,” said the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Honourable Winston Chitando.
Sandon Academy Chief Executive Officer Honourable Lovemore Matuke said their vision is to establish more schools across the country to ensure improved access to quality education.

“It has been quite a journey here at Sandon Academy, we opened our doors in 2017 and we have since established three institutions like these in Chiredzi and Beatrice. Our goal is to establish more schools hence supporting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of ensuring access to quality education for all. I want to commend our staff here for maintaining high pass rates hence our ranking is among the top schools in the country,” he noted.

The event saw several teachers and students being recognised after impressive pass rates in the past season.
