A disturbing trend is unfolding, amid continuous reports of carjacking incidents by armed criminals across the country.

The disturbing car-jacking cases come on the backdrop of a particularly active week for car theft syndicates across the country.

On June 12 alone, five cars were reported stolen in separate incidents across Mashonaland and Harare provinces.

Adding to the statistics, Bulawayo experienced two robberies involving Toyota Fortuner vehicles in a span of five days, with vehicle owners surrendering their cars at gunpoint.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi stressed the need for motorists to take personal responsibility to secure their vehicles and be vigilant when driving.

According to the police, the latest robbery cases point towards the existence of sophisticated syndicates in various parts of the country.
