Solange ‘attacks’ Jay Z: Pair and Beyonce finally break silence over Met Gala lift incident

Trio say they are ‘united’ and deny that Solange was intoxicated

After days of speculation over what led Beyoncé’s sister Solange to seemingly attack Jay Z in a lift after the Met Gala, the trio have finally broken their silence, saying “families have problems and we’re no different” and that the trio are now “united”.

In CCTV footage leaked to TMZ and posted online on Monday, Solange could apparently be seen launching herself at her sister’s husband in an elevator, before being held back by Beyoncé’s security guard.

While Solange seemed to delete a series of family photos from her Instagram feed in the wake of the video release, Beyoncé uploaded four photos of herself and her sister to the picture-sharing app and Jay Z was spotted shopping with his sister-in-law days later, leading many to question the state of the family’s relationship.

In the first public comment on the incident today, the trio said in a statement to the Associated Press: “As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident.

“But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it

“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

While the trio did not address the cause of the argument, they were quick to deny that it had anything to do with Solange being drunk or getting into arguments at the Met Gala, as had initially been reported by some sources.

“The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false,” the statement continued. “At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”

The security guard who leaked the video to TMZ was fired on Wednesday after it emerged that he had sold the tape for a reported $250,000 to the entertainment website.
