Two minibuses crashed into an irrigation canal in southern Egypt Tuesday, killing 19 and injuring 15, according to sources at the AFP. A security official said the two drivers lost control of the vehicles early Tuesday morning, carrying a large group of passengers coming from a wedding, lost control when a third vehicle appeared in the opposite direction.
While the accident occured in a canal in the Luxor tourist province, the security officail said all those wounded and killed in the accident were Egyptian.
Loose traffic regulations and poor road maitenance account for a long list of car and bus accidents on Egypt’s streets.
The crash comes days after another serious accident where two coaches collided at the Egypt Red Sea Resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, killing 33 and injuring 41.
