Libyan presidential council demanded for a transfer of power to the newly appointed UN-backed government of national accord, local media reported on Sunday.
“The presidential council calls on all sovereign institutions of the Libyan state, mainly official financial institutions, to immediately start communicating with the government of national accord in order to make necessary arrangements for an organized and peaceful transfer of power,” the council said in a statement.
The statement also demanded “the international community and regional and international institutions, mainly United Nations, Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the African Union, and the European Union to immediately stop dealing with any other executive authority that does not follow the government of national accord.”
The presidential council was named under a UN-sponsored peace agreement singed on December 17, 2015 in the Moroccan city of Skherat. The Tunis-based council named a government of national accord.
On Feb. 23, the unity government received the support of the majority of the members of the house of representatives.
The council considered in the statement that the unlimited support of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives and the dialogue team the signed the peace agreement is “the green light to start working.”
