PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has demanded results from beneficiaries of various empowerment initiatives he is implementing across the country.
He made the remarks this Tuesday during a handover ceremony at State House in Harare, where he distributed equipment to youths under the Presidential Youth Fund.
The US$2 million fund, launched a few months ago, is part of a broader government strategy to economically empower young people across the country. The latest distribution marks the second batch of equipment rolled out to support youth-led development.
Addressing recipients, President Mnangagwa emphasised that empowerment must translate into measurable results.
“This is a process which has been ongoing for a long time. We continue, both as ZANU PF and as government, to empower our youth because the future of the country is in the hands of our young people,” he said.
“It is critically important that we empower them now and ensure that they are committed to developing their country. They must be a generation that leaves a mark and one day says, ‘Look at what we achieved in our youth.’ As leaders, we are playing our part by empowering them. It is now up to them to use this equipment productively. I hope they will return to me one day and say, ‘Mr President, this is what we achieved through your support.’”
The second batch of the availed equipment includes front-end loaders and tipper trucks that will benefit three provinces namely: Harare, Mashonaland West, and Mashonaland Central.
The first batch of the equipment benefitted Bulawayo, Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, and Mashonaland East provinces, with the third batch expected to be distributed to Midlands, Masvingo, and Manicaland Provinces.
