I’m INDIA’S Minister of State for External Affairs, Honourable Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House, in Harare, this Friday, pledging his country’s commitment to consolidate the already existing excellent political and economic relations with Zimbabwe.
The high-level engagement marks a significant moment in the strengthening of ties between the two nations, building on a longstanding history of cooperation across trade, health, education, and multilateral diplomacy.
Speaking after nearly an hour of discussions with the President, Honourable Singh noted that the dialogue touched on several areas of mutual interest, including global governance reforms and support for each other’s candidatures to the United Nations Security Council.
“We are supporting each other in our respective bids for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. India supports Zimbabwe’s candidature for the 2027–2028 term, while Zimbabwe has expressed support for India’s bid for the 2029–2030 term. Our nations have always maintained strong support for one another in international fora,” he said.
The Minister further revealed that his visit was also aimed at enhancing bilateral economic cooperation, with discussions covering trade, investment and development opportunities.
“My visit to Zimbabwe is aligned with our broader aim to strengthen bilateral relations and we had extensive engagements on trade and investment potential with the President.”
Relations between Zimbabwe and India are cemented through cooperation in higher education, technology, health and pharmaceuticals, with both nations reaffirming commitment to inclusive development and multilateral engagement.
