The United Nations has urged countries around the world to stand in solidarity with victims of terrorism and their families as the world marked the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the day is a reminder of the devastating impact terrorism continues to have on innocent lives and communities. He stressed that victims must not be forgotten, and their voices should be heard in shaping global responses to violent extremism.
The UN called on governments to provide greater support, including justice, medical care, psychological assistance, and opportunities for victims to rebuild their lives. Guterres also highlighted the importance of unity in countering terrorism, noting that division only fuels extremist ideologies.
He said honoring the memory of victims should also push nations to strengthen international cooperation, address root causes of extremism, and promote peace and tolerance.
