Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei has praised parliamentary committees, describing them as the “engine room” of the National Assembly.
Speaking during a session in Nairobi, Shollei said committees play a vital role in shaping legislation, overseeing government operations, and ensuring accountability. She noted that much of the real work of Parliament happens in committees, where members interrogate policies, scrutinize budgets, and engage with the public.
Shollei also commended committee chairs and members for their dedication despite challenges, urging them to continue strengthening oversight and law-making functions. She emphasized that effective committees are essential for a vibrant democracy and for ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard in governance.
Her remarks come as Parliament continues to face scrutiny over efficiency, transparency, and delivery of services to Kenyans.
