THE Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe has called for a speedy amendment of the Radiation Protection Act to ensure that the law is holistic in protecting citizens from exposure to radioactive material.
Officials from the authority met Vice President Kembo Mohadi in Harare this Friday.
The meeting provided a crucial opportunity for discussion on the operations of the authority as well as policy and governance gaps.
The authority, whose operations are overseen by Vice President Mohadi, is seeking to have the Radiation Protection Act amended.
“We discussed the Radiation Protection Amendment Act, which is the Bill that we want, to make sure the Authority runs legally ratified by Parliament, and this is something that he reassured us. He also assured us that he is going to look into all policy and corporate governance issues we are facing as an Authority,” Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe, Board Chairperson, Dr Anna Nyakabau noted.
According to the Authority, amending the Radiation Act is pivotal in transforming their operations.
“This is long overdue because there are a lot of issues that will make the Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe function better, in terms of how some of the activities of the Authority run.
