ZIMBABWE women’s football champions, Herentals Queens, have been given another opportunity to challenge for continental honours after the draw of the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifier was conducted this Tuesday.
Herentals Queens will have to battle against unfamiliar opposition in their second campaign at the regional qualifier for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The students will face Costa do Sol of Mozambique and Olympic de Moroni of Comoros in Group C, with the winner progressing to the semi-finals.
There are three groups, with the top team in each pool advancing to the semi-finals along with the best second-placed runner-up.
The winner of the Qualifier to be staged at the University of Johannesburg’s AW Muller Stadium from the 22nd to the 31st of August will progress to the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
Herentals Queens narrowly missed out on reaching the regional final last year after losing one-nil to Gaborone United in the semi-finals.
Zimbabwe are yet to produce a winner of the tournament, with Black Rhinos Queens going the furthest before losing the 3-nil to Mamelodi Sundowns in the first edition of the tournament in 2021.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe have been drawn in Group A of the 2026 CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations, COSAFA Qualifiers.
The Young Warriors will face neighbours Mozambique, Islanders Comoros, and Eswatini at the tournament that will be staged in Harare from the 11th to the 20th of September.
Defending champions, Zambia and fellow regional powerhouses, South Africa, have been drawn together in Group B.
The top three teams advance to the CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations finals, which in turn serve as the qualifiers for the newly expanded 48-team FIFA Under-17 World Cup, which includes 10 teams from the African continent.
