PROMINENT Russian scholar, Professor Vladimir Shubin has praised the Chitepo School of Ideology for playing a fundamental role in safeguarding the national ideological identity.
The former Secretary of the Soviet Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee, who received the Zimbabwe International Friendship Award during the Heroes Day commemorations on Monday, visited Chitepo School of Ideology this Wednesday where he underscored the key role the institution plays in inculcating the nation’s ideological principle and values.
“The fundamental need to have a School of Ideology cannot be understated and I’m glad that Zimbabwe is in a position to guard against any potential threats to its democracy by inculcating the fundamental Ideological values in its people,” he said.
Chitepo School of Ideology Principal, Cde Ishmael Mada said his institution is privileged to host the Professor Shubin as it continues to develop its core curriculum.
“We opened our doors in June and we are privileged to have received and host Dr Shubin whose high profile visit offers opportunity to refer to his vast experience and knowledge in communism and how Russia prevailed against neo colonialism,” he noted.
Part of the audience included Director of Academic Affairs Retired Colonel Resten Magumise and Senior Lecturer Dr Dunny Derera who were impressed by Dr Shubin’s teachings.
“Russia remains a key ally for Zimbabwe as we share similar ideological values and principles given the fundamental role played by Russia in helping us attain out independence. It is important that these luminaries are given the opportunity to share their experiences as we continue to develop our curriculum,” said Colonel Magumise.
Dr Derera weighed in, “The teachings by Dr Shubin are so profound that as lecturers we get more informed in terms of the ideological perspectives of the Russian Federation under President Vladimir Putin and most importantly it helps us to understand the policy direction. As a School we get more insights in teaching our graduates.”
Professor Shubin, a former military advisor during the Soviet Union era, played a key role in the liberation of Africa during his time as Head of the Africa Section of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union’s International Department and Secretary of the Soviet Afro Asian Solidarity Committee.
