FORMER Chevrons captain, Brendan Taylor has made the much anticipated return to white valley cricket after being named in the 16-man ODI squad announced by Zimbabwe Cricket this Monday.
Taylor, who returned to international cricket recently after serving a three-year ban, has been training with the national team and was part of the recent test squad.
The 38-year-old batsman remains one of Zimbabwe’s most accomplished cricketers, with over 200 ODI appearances and more than 6000 runs to his name.
The two ODIs set for the 29th and 31st of this month at Harare Sports Club, will mark Taylor’s first ODI appearance since facing Ireland in September 2021.
Another former captain, Graeme Cremer, who is the leading wicket-taker in the National Premier League, has not been considered for selection.
The Chevrons squad captained by Craig Ervine, blends experience with emerging talent as Zimbabwe transitions from the red-ball format – having played seven Tests since their last ODI in February.
Middle-order mainstays, Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza, are expected to provide stability, while the pace attack receives a boost from a fit-again Richard Ngarava, alongside Blessing Muzarabani.
The squad also includes four players, who did not feature in Zimbabwe’s last ODI series against Ireland in February: Clive Madande, Tony Munyonga, Brad Evans and uncapped seamer, Ernest Masuku.
