Royal Air Maroc Celebrates Arrival of Its Tenth Boeing 787 Dreamliner

A Royal Air Maroc Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner receives a water cannon salute in Casablanca.

Royal Air Maroc, the national carrier of Morocco, has taken delivery of its tenth Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-9, landed at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport on 24 November 2024, and was welcomed with a traditional water salute.

This delivery marks the first step in implementing Royal Air Maroc’s development plan, following the program agreement signed with the government in July 2023.

This latest addition to Royal Air Maroc’s fleet is part of a larger order for ten aircraft. The bulk order also includes seven single-aisle Boeing 737 MAX jets. The new Dreamliner will be used for long-haul flights to destinations such as São Paulo, Toronto, and Beijing.

The arrival of the tenth Dreamliner marks a further waypoint for Royal Air Maroc. The airline has continued to expand its global reach and improve its service offerings. Another 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft is now expected to arrive before the end of the year. This will then become the eleventh aircraft in the carrier’s long-haul fleet.

Royal Air Maroc’s investment in new aircraft is part of a broader development plan that was announced in July 2023. The plan includes a significant expansion of the airline’s fleet, as well as the launch of new routes and destinations.

The airline’s goal is to become a leading player in the global aviation market, and the addition of new Dreamliners is a key part of this strategy. Overall, the airline is seeking to quadruple its fleet number to nearly 200 aircraft by 2030.

This expansion plan also aligns with Morocco’s broader vision for regional aviation. The plan will focus on boosting domestic connectivity with the introduction of new tourism routes. As Morocco’s tourism industry continues to thrive, it seeks to reinforce Casablanca as a major air transit hub.

The upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup will further drive a surge in international passenger traffic numbers. With its modern fleet and expanding network, Royal Air Maroc is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for air travel in the region and beyond.

The delivery of the tenth Dreamliner comes as a positive development for Royal Air Maroc and Morocco. It furthers the airlines growth strategy which will continue its momentum into the end of 2024 with the arrival of a further wide body 787 aircraft.
