The University of Cape Town (UCT) has launched a new policy to guide the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning.
The AI in education framework’ reportedly focuses on the ethical and responsible use of ai by both students and staff.
UCT said that the move reflects the growing role of AI in everyday life and its potential to enhance education.
Director at the centre for innovation in teaching and learning Sukaina Walji said that implementing AI guidelines at the university is a way of keeping up with the times.
“We’ve also seen tremendous potential for AI to support our institutional goals around multilingualism, accessibility and innovative teaching methods.”
Walji adds that both students and staff must use artificial intelligence in an ethical manner.
“Our graduates will need to know how to work with AI ethically and effectively. So, the framework represents our move from the experimenting and exploring phase to a more operational phase where we move towards clearer institutional principles and more systematic approaches.
