THE Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Mr Sugar Chagonda as the substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the national broadcaster.
A former ZBC employee, Mr Chagonda, has bounced back at the national broadcaster as the new substantive CEO with effect from August 1.
ZBC Board Chairperson, Ms Helliate Rushwaya, announced Mr Chagonda’s appointment at ZBC Pockets Hill Studios in Harare this Monday.
“As the ZBC Board, we would like to announce the appointment of Mr Sugar Chagonda as the substantive CEO of the national broadcaster. We welcome him and hope that he will transform ZBC and continue telling the Zimbabwean story.
“While we have made progress in terms of refurbishing our studios here at Pockets and Montrose studios. There is still much work to be done. With our current team in place, we’re poised to focus on producing high-quality television content that showcases the Zimbabwean story. Historically, ZBC has lagged in terms of telling the Zimbabwean story.
“We are committed to telling the Zimbabwean story and changing the negative narrative about Zimbabwe. We will also prioritise elevating our news bulletins to meet international standards in terms of statistics and delivery. I’m confident that our capable team will soon bring about noticeable changes on our screens,” she said.
A distinguished media strategist and corporate affairs expert, Mr Chagonda brings a wealth of experience, intellectual and transformative leadership to ZBC.
Mr Chagonda’s illustrious career spans over two decades, having worked for the national broadcaster as a reporter from 2004 before joining the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) as Head of Corporate Affairs.
He went on to join the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) in 2028 as Corporate Affairs Executive, where he played an instrumental role in shaping corporate governance, public relations, and strategic communication for the entity.
Beyond corporate leadership, Mr Chagonda is a fervent advocate for sports development, having served as a board member of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) and as the founding Secretary General of Manica Diamonds Football Club.
Mr Chagonda is a holder of a Social Studies Degree from the University of Zimbabwe, a Master’s degree in public policy and governance from Africa University and an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from the Midlands State University.
